Many of you know that I live half a block from the Mighty Mississippi River. The boys and I took a walk up to the levee yesterday, shortly before they opened the Bonnet Carre Spillway, and took some pictures.

These are our pictures. We walk the levee often. Generally, we are able to scale the River side of the levee, all the way down the concrete, and walk beyond the trees, to the shores of the River. You'll notice that the water is lapping at the concrete as of yesterday, and the area we are used to walking is totally submerged. See the ship? For scale's sake - that's an ocean-sized freighter.
I'll be posting more pictures over the next few days to see how the water level changes (hopefully!). The Corps tells us the levees will hold - gee, that's encouraging . . . LOL!
