If it breathes . . .

So here we are, on the day after Mardi Gras. The first day of Lent ~ and what have I given up this year? Meat and beer. Meat, well because for just about every year as long as I can remember back through college, I've given up meat -- except for last year, only it just seemed so wrong to eat meat during Lent - LOL!

Beer because Owen suggested it. Interesting, eh? Last year we all gave up soda, and he mentioned that soda meant beer too . . . so we argued about that, and I (selfishly) decided that beer and soda are completely different, naturally! . . . only I've been thinking about it lately, and well, it is carbonated, coupled with my reluctance last year and all, so he challenged me with it again this year, so what the hay.

So then the meat discussion ensued . . .

So I've decided to give up meat again this year.

Great - we have a lot of fish in the freezer, and I bet we'll be getting some frog legs.

Wait - frog legs aren't meat?

Well, frogs are amphibeans . . . live in water half their lives . . . FISH!

No no ~ fish are an entirely different animal type.

Oh come on - everyone knows that meat = mammal

What about chicken? Chicken is a bird, birds aren't mammals, and chicken is definitely meat . . .

Back to frogs . . . I think they're seafood . . .

So just what is it about FISH anyway? Why are fish/seafood okay when one gives up meat?

ECONOMICS . . . yep . . . that's why they're a-okay . . . religion can be SO wierd! LOL LOL!

Enjoy!

A Picture Perfect Day ~ Only I FORGOT My Camera!

Thoth was most excellent » as usual. It's appeal is that it's very family oriented, and accessible - during the day, which was, as I describe in my title: PICTURE PERFECT! Not a cloud in the perfect blue sky, a bit chilly, but not too bitter ~ and the boys were in lovely moods! I didn't get any pictures of Hayden sitting high in against the blue of the sky, in his multi-layers and tuque, or images of Owen waving as he screamed, "Throw me something, Mistah!"

But perhaps I will on Tuesday . . .

I did happen to get these shots, of what a day of Carnival can do to a couple of young boys:

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

I sure hope I can successfully get my boys to a parade today! We shot for Endymion yesterday, but decided very early on that if we couldn't find a safe place to park, with a decent walk to the route, or if the weather became too bitter, or if there were any other reasonable expectations that could not be met, we'd turn and head for home.

Well, the closest we could get parking-wise was Claiborne. The boys, by this time, were fast asleep in the car, and traffic was starting to do that standstill, just-get-out-where-you-are-and-run-to-the-route thing that happens ~ and I did NOT want to get stuck in THAT! So we turned and headed home.

Sigh.

I appreciate the reasons for the Uptown route, but MAN I hope that next year's Endymion gets back to the traditional Mid-City path! At least then, I've got a better plan!

SO today, we'll try to get to Thoth - though its already getting late to get down there in time to park decently . . . but we'll try. Last year, I found it all too easy to excuse myself from the parades ~ in my post-Katrina funk. So this year, the boys are really jonesing for them.

We did make it to Barkus last weekend . . . WOOF!

The Chinese New Year has caught me totally off guard! I guess this means a trip to the stupendous Hong Kong Market for dinner tonight!
