Bryan, Muhammad Ali & Suzette ~ September 1978
In September 1978, 70000 boxing fans packed the Louisiana Superdome to watch Muhammad Ali beat Leon Spinks for the Heavyweight Championship. My father-in-law was assigned to Ali as his personal bodyguard while here in New Orleans. For 24 hours a day, over a month's time, he watched over Ali.
It is one of Bryan's fondest memories of his childhood, and his Dad was a hero among all of the young boys! Imagine, meeting perhaps the greatest boxer who ever lived, and imagine that he knew your father?! Imagine being the son of the boy who met Muhammad Ali - one day my boys will be very proud to boast that!
Today is Father's Day. In their Grandpa's memory, the boys let go of two brilliant, blue balloons - up up and away over the golf course where he used to play.
Happy Father's Day!
